I hope you are doing well!
Today I want to share a reflection that is being in my heart a few days now, since I was writing a paperwork for my postgraduate course.
Let me ask you:
Is education a responsibility of schools? is it part of government’s policies? Or is it a responsibility of us, parents?
Well, we can say that is a matter for all the above, right?!
But the thing is that, in so many cases, as parents, we delegate this responsibility to schools, mostly. Demanding teachers to do the major part of our role as parents, which is to discipline and to guide our children into the right direction.
Furthermore, if you are a Christian, like me, you know what the bible says, right? It says that education starts at home. Look at this passage in Deuteronomy 6:
Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son’s son(…)
It means that since the beginning God gave clear and righteous instructions to His people. Not only that, He commanded us to keep it in but also to pass it on to the next generation, talking about it in all opportunity to our children, so His people would never forget:
6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.“
We can see through the whole bible what are the consequences that Israel faced for not keeping God’s commands. Do you think that is any different for us, Christians?!
Every time they forgot and embraced other nations’ cultures and beliefs, they perished. The next generation would do even worse. They went deeper and deeper into sin and evil.
However, God made it very clear that obedience would pay off! If the people of Israel chose to honor God and keep His laws, they would get great blessings, as it is described in Deuteronomy 28:1-6:
“And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.
3 Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. 5 Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. 6 Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.“
As people of God, the same warning is valid for us, now. Not only the laws of the old testament, but also in books like Proverbs and through the whole teaching of Jesus, we are instructed to keep the ways of the Lord and live righteous lives, teaching our children to do the same thing:
“She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
As God disciplines His children for their good, so should we:
“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”(Hb 12:6)
It is crystal clear that there is a right way, pointed by God, so we can follow into the right direction, living a fruitful and blessed life. And that should be teach to others, so they would they never forget or abandon the ways of life.
But, what it is happening to this generation?!
We let the government say, through the schools, what values and principles our kids should keep. We also allow social media to tell them what is good. Now we are reaping bitter and rotten fruits.
We see a lost and ill generation, who do not honor the elders or the traditions of their families.
We see angry hostile women who demonize men and despise marriage, family and the role of woman in them.
We see college kids embracing distorted views for the world, supporting evil and violence and calling it “fighting for freedom and peace”.
And on top of that, we see unprecedented numbers concerning mental health issues. Anxiety and depression leading the list, specially on teenagers and young adults.
It is time to take back the education of our children, to past it on based on righteous and godly values, before it is too late.
We can not neglect our children’s education anymore! Let’s teach what the bible says it good and righteous, tirelessly!
Because there are people out there teaching their beliefs in the same way, but not for our families’ benefit.
We need to repent as the church of Jesus. Let’s return to the ancient roads, the ways of the Lord that are right and trustworthy. The ways that bring life and wisdom.
No matter what people will say about us or what they will do. Jesus warned us about the tough times ahead, and that we should keep the sound doctrine.
“ They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. 3 And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. “ John 16:2
And last, but not least, let’s remember the mission that Jesus gave to His disciples, which includes us, nowadays: That we should announce the Good news and teach others to keep and practice what Jesus left as a example for us:
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
It is a challenging task, but with God’s help and wisdom , we can do it!
Parents, I urge you, to take back the control and the leadership of your children’s education. Their lives depend on it!
We can do this!
“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” Ephesians 6:4
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children[a] of one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate” Psalm 127: 3-5
Aos pais: Uma reflexão sobre educação!
Olá, queridos leitores! Espero que estejam bem!
Hoje, quero compartilhar uma reflexão que está no meu coração há alguns dias, desde que estava escrevendo uma monografia para meu curso de pós-graduação.
A educação é responsabilidade de quem? Ela é uma responsabilidade do governo, repassado às escolas? Ou é uma responsabilidade nossa, como pais?
Bem, poderíamos dizer que que é de ambas as partes, certo?!
Mas o problema é que, em muitos casos, delegamos essa responsabilidade apenas às escolas, exigindo que os professores façam a maior parte do trabalho, que deveria ser nosso como pais, de disciplinar e guiar nossos filhos na direção certa.
Além disso, se você é cristão como eu, sabe o que a Bíblia diz, certo? Ela diz que a educação começa em casa. Olha essa passagem em Deuteronômio 6:
Este é o mandamento, os estatutos e as regras, que o Senhor teu Deus me ordenou que te ensinasse, para que os cumpras na terra para a qual estás passando, para possuí-la, para que tema o Senhor teu Deus, tu, teu filho e o filho de teu filho (…)
Significa que desde o princípio Deus deu instruções claras e justas ao Seu povo. Não apenas isso, Ele nos ordenou que as guardássemos, mas também que as passássemos para a próxima geração, falando sobre elas em todas as oportunidades para nossos filhos, para que Seu povo nunca se esquecesse:
” E estas palavras que hoje te ordeno estarão no teu coração. Ensinarás diligentemente a teus filhos, e delas falarás assentado em tua casa, e andando pelo caminho, e deitando-te, e levantando-te. Tu os atarás como um sinal na tua mão, e eles serão como frontais entre os teus olhos.”
Podemos ver através de toda a Bíblia quais foram as consequências que Israel enfrentou por não guardar os mandamentos de Deus. Você acha que a situação é diferente pra nós, cristãos?
Toda vez que eles se esqueciam e abraçavam as culturas e crenças de outras nações, eles pereciam. A próxima geração faria ainda pior. Eles se aprofundavam cada vez mais no pecado e no mal.
No entanto, Deus deixou bem claro que a obediência valeria a pena! Se o povo de Israel escolhesse honrar a Deus e guardar Suas leis, eles receberiam grandes bênçãos, como é descrito em Deuteronômio 28:1-6:
“E se você obedecer fielmente à voz do Senhor teu Deus, tendo o cuidado de cumprir todos os seus mandamentos que eu te ordeno hoje, o Senhor teu Deus te colocará muito acima de todas as nações da terra. 2 E todas estas bênçãos virão sobre ti e te alcançarão, se você obedecer à voz do Senhor teu Deus.
3 Bendito serás tu na cidade, e bendito serás no campo. 4 Bendito será o fruto do teu ventre, e o fruto da tua terra, e o fruto do teu gado, e o fruto das tuas vacas, e as crias das tuas ovelhas. 5 Bendito será o teu cesto, e a tua amassadeira. 6 Bendito serás quando entrares, e bendito serás quando saíres.”
Não se engane, uma vez que fomos incluídos no povo de Deus,através de Cristo, o mesmo aviso é válido para nós.
Não apenas na essência das leis do antigo testamento, mas também em Provérbios e por todo o ensinamento de Jesus, somos instruídos a manter os caminhos do Senhor e viver vidas justas, ensinando nossos filhos a fazer a mesma coisa:
“Ela abre a boca com sabedoria,
e o ensino da bondade está na sua língua.” Provérbios 31:6
“Eduque a criança no caminho em que deve andar;
mesmo quando for velho não se desviará dela.” Provérbios 22:6
Assim como Deus disciplina Seus filhos para o bem deles, nós também devemos fazer o mesmo:
“Meu filho, não despreze a disciplina do Senhor,
nem se canse quando por ele for repreendido.
Pois o Senhor disciplina a quem ama,
e castiga todo filho a quem recebe.” (Hb 12:6)
É cristalino que existe um caminho certo, apontado por Deus, para que possamos seguir na direção certa, vivendo uma vida frutífera e abençoada. E isso deve ser ensinado à próxima geração, para que nunca se esqueçam ou abandonem os caminhos da vida.
Mas, o que está acontecendo com esta geração?!
Deixamos o governo dizer, através das escolas, quais valores e princípios nossos filhos deveriam manter, deixamos as redes sociais “educá-los”. Agora estamos colhendo frutos amargos, podres.
Vemos uma geração perdida e doente, que não honra os mais velhos e não respeitam as tradições de suas famílias.
Vemos mulheres hostis e raivosas que demonizam os homens e desprezam o casamento, a família e o papel da mulher neles.
Vemos universitários adotando visões distorcidas do mundo, apoiando a violência e chamando-a de “luta pela liberdade e paz”.
E para completar, vemos números sem precedentes sobre problemas de saúde mental. Ansiedade e depressão liderando a lista entre os jovens.
É hora de retomar a liderança na educação dos nossos filhos. Transmitindo os valores justos e piedosos que apredemos, alinhados com a Palavra de Deus, antes que seja tarde demais.
Não podemos mais negligenciar a educação dos nossos filhos! Vamos ensinar o que a Bíblia diz que é bom e justo, incansavelmente!
Porque há pessoas por aí ensinando suas crenças da mesma forma, mas não para o benefício das nossas famílias.
Precisamos nos arrepender como a igreja de Jesus. Vamos retornar às estradas antigas, os caminhos do Senhor que são corretos e confiáveis. Os caminhos que trazem vida e sabedoria.
Não importa o que as pessoas vão dizer sobre nós ou o que elas vão fazer. Jesus nos alertou sobre os tempos difíceis que viriam e que devíamos nos manter na sã doutrina.
“Eles vos expulsarão das sinagogas. Eis que vem a hora em que qualquer que vos matar julgará estar prestando serviço a Deus. E farão estas coisas porque não conheceram o Pai, nem a mim.” João 16:2
E por último, mas não menos importante, lembremo-nos da missão que Jesus deu aos seus discípulos, que nos inclui, hoje em dia: Que anunciemos as Boas Novas e ensinemos os outros a guardar e praticar o que Jesus deixou como exemplo para nós:
“E, chegando-se Jesus, disse-lhes: Foi-me dada toda a autoridade no céu e na terra. Portanto, ide e fazei discípulos de todas as nações, batizando-os em nome do Pai, e do Filho, e do Espírito Santo, ensinando-os a observar tudo o que vos tenho ordenado. E eis que eu estou convosco todos os dias, até ao fim dos tempos. idade.”
É uma tarefa desafiadora, mas com a ajuda e sabedoria de Deus, podemos cumprir essa missão!
Pais, eu os exorto a retomar o controle e a liderança da educação de seus filhos. A vida deles depende disso!
Nós podemos fazer isso!
“Pais, não irritem seus filhos; em vez disso, criem-nos na disciplina e na instrução do Senhor” Efésios 6:4
“Os filhos são a herança do Senhor,
o fruto do ventre, uma recompensa.
Como flechas na mão de um guerreiro
são os filhos[a] da juventude.
Bem-aventurado o homem
que enche sua aljava com eles!
Ele não será envergonhado
quando falar com seus inimigos na porta” Salmo 127: 3-5
