A inutilidade dos prazeres

Boa tarde caro leitor!

Todos nós gostamos de nos sentirmos bem, não é mesmo?

Nós buscamos hobbies, companhias e objetivos que nos façam sentir alegres, satsfeitos e que façam parecer que a vida vale a pena. Mas será essa busca realmente válida?!

No fim do dia, quando a festa acaba, resta apenas quem nós somos de verdade e o que carregamos. Isso é o sufiente?

Considerando a semana que estamos, decidi compartilhar essa reflexão de Eclesiates, para te inspirar a refletir sobre o que realmente importa nesta vida e, evitar os excessos!

“Eu disse a mim mesmo: “Venha, vamos experimentar o prazer; vamos procurar as coisas boas da vida!”. Descobri, porém, que isso também não fazia sentido. ² Portanto, disse: “O riso é tolice. De que adianta buscar o prazer?”. ³ Depois de pensar muito, resolvi me animar com vinho. E, enquanto ainda buscava a sabedoria, apeguei-me à insensatez. Assim, procurei experimentar o que haveria de melhor para as pessoas em sua curta vida debaixo do sol.

⁴ Dediquei-me a projetos grandiosos, construindo casas enormes e plantando belos vinhedos. ⁵ Fiz jardins e parques e os enchi de árvores frutíferas de toda espécie. ⁶ Construí açudes para juntar água e regar meus pomares verdejantes. ⁷ Comprei escravos e escravas, e outros nasceram em minha casa. Tive muito gado e rebanhos, mais que todos os que viveram em Jerusalém antes de mim. ⁸ Juntei grande quantidade de prata e ouro, tesouros de muitos reis e províncias. Contratei cantores e cantoras e tive muitas concubinas. Tive tudo que um homem pode desejar!

⁹ Tornei-me mais importante que todos os que viveram em Jerusalém antes de mim, e nunca me faltou sabedoria. ¹⁰ Tudo que desejei, busquei e consegui. Não me neguei prazer algum. No trabalho árduo, encontrei grande prazer, a recompensa por meus esforços. ¹¹ Mas, ao olhar para tudo que havia me esforçado tanto para realizar, vi que nada fazia sentido; era como correr atrás do vento. Não havia nada que valesse a pena debaixo do sol.”

Depois de toda a sua reflexão sobre a vida, Salomão conclui:

“Não se esqueça de seu Criador nos dias de sua juventude. Honre-o enquanto você é jovem, antes que venham os tempos difíceis e cheguem os anos em que você dirá: “Não tenho mais prazer em viver”. ² Lembre-se dele antes que o sol, a lua e as estrelas percam o brilho aos seus olhos, e as nuvens voltem a cobrir o céu depois da chuva. ³ Lembre-se dele antes que suas pernas comecem a tremer, e antes que seus ombros se encurvem. Lembre-se dele antes que os poucos dentes que lhe restam já não possam mastigar, e antes que seus olhos deixem de ver com clareza.“

O homem mais sábio que já viveu conclui que, não importa o que você faça, como você deseja viver sua vida, o mais importante é olhar para cima e lembrar de quem te criou e o que é importante para Ele.

Porque o que importa para Ele é o que importa na vida, e isso é o que faz valer a pena viver!

The Vanity of Self-Indulgence

We all want to feel good, don’t we?

We seek out hobbies, companions and goals that make us feel happy, satisfied; something that make life seem worth living. But is this search really worthwhile?!

At the end of the day, when the party is over and people are gone, all that remains is who we really are and what we carry with us. Is that enough?!

Today, I want to share with you this Solomon’s reflection in the book of Ecclesiates.

I hope it inspires you to think about your life and what really matters! So you can also, avoid the excesses and the empty pursuits.

“I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy yourself.” But behold, this also was vanity. ² I said of laughter, “It is mad,” and of pleasure, “What use is it?” ³ I searched with my heart how to cheer my body with wine—my heart still guiding me with wisdom—and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the children of man to do under heaven during the few days of their life. ⁴ I made great works. I built houses and planted vineyards for myself. ⁵ I made myself gardens and parks, and planted in them all kinds of fruit trees. ⁶ I made myself pools from which to water the forest of growing trees. ⁷ I bought male and female slaves, and had slaves who were born in my house. I had also great possessions of herds and flocks, more than any who had been before me in Jerusalem. ⁸ I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the treasure of kings and provinces. I got singers, both men and women, and many concubines, the delight of the sons of man.

⁹ So I became great and surpassed all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me. ¹⁰ And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. ¹¹ Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.

After all his reflections, Solomon concludes:

“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”; ² before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return after the rain, ³ in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look through the windows are dimmed.”

The wisest man that lived concludes that, no matter what you do, how you spent your life, the most important thing is to look above and remember who created you and what is important to Him. Because what matters to Him is what matters in life, what makes it worth living!
