Helo dear reader,
Today I have a (kind of) heavy reflection to share with you all, take a deep breath and grab a coffee.
It’s been a while since I’ve started to think about this….
I don’t know about you, but I like politics. I like to keep up with the news, keep myself informed to, at least, understand the bare minimum. And lately, I mean, in the last months, the news is mostly bad news.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to talk specifically about politics, I just want to use a few examples to make a reflection. I don’t want to go deeper in those matters because, I am not an expert in politics, but most importantly, this reflection is more about a Christian perspective and how we read the world.
The right is in crisis, again. Or the far-right, if you want to use the name the left give to everyone who loves their country, wants to have autonomy over their families and wants a better, free from government’s heavy influence, economy.
Anyways, I was reflecting in how in the last years, we got confused about the difference of what it means to be a conservative and what is actually the meaning of being a Christian. Because, what I’ve noticed is that we are considering both as they were the same. They are not.
We’ve being buying this lie that ever public figure, influencer and politician who says he is a conservative, it is also a Christian or, at least, a defender of Christianity. No, this is just not true.
The thing is that people got so confused with those complementing, but not the same, worldviews, that they don’t know what it means to be Christian anymore, in terms of principles and values, at least not in social media.
Nevertheless, my point is not only that we , surfers of the internet, assumed that every conservative figure holds Christians values, the point is that when we started to assuming that in the first place, we also began to put our hopes in those figures, and they are turning us down. Is anyone surprised by that?
I’ve seen the same fenonemon that happended in US, here in Brazil. A proeminent figure, a politician, who came up with this “liberty banner” , a speech against all the threats of comunism(or progressism), who claimed to be a defensor of family values, who wanted a free country with a healthy economy, where people could actually have their own opinion. And, the discourse was so good, so compelling, that of course, we bought it!
But not only that, because with the promises, we bought this ilusion that those people were sent by God himself. That they were not only fighting for the right of holding conservatives values in our families, they were fighting for our right to be Christians, even more, that they honored the Word of God. Big MISTAKE.
Those public figures, and here I want to include not only politicians, but also comunicators and influencers, they are not this amazing whole package we assumed. They just want us to believe, that being conservative, or diging even deeper, faking that they have conservatives values, that means they also love God and wants to live by his Word.
How could we believe that? I don’t know, but we did.
And last, but not least, all this wrong concept, that mixed of politics and religion, resulted in these idols, that we’ve created for ourselves, this false idea of redemption and deliverance coming from discourse and politics. These people who came up as saviors of the nation, guess what? They failed us.
We created an idol, we believed that POLITICS would save us, that if we chose the right people, they would figure everything out for us, that they would deliver us from evil of progresism with all it’s agenda. And they failed.
Anyone surprised by that?!
Just to clarify a thing, I am not saying that Christians can not talk about politics or even be called to that, we can, and moreover, we should be prepare to choose our representatives wisely. However, this is not the final answer for our struggles.
Looking at this pattern here and there, I could only assume that God is teaching us a lesson. He is turning down our sand castels, our foolish hopes in people that can not save us, they coudn’t barely save themselves( from political persecution, for example).
It is time to REPENT. I mean it.
It is time to be honest and recognize before Jesus that we were so mistaken, so delusional, putting our hopes and dreams of freedom in those people. Because, it is one thing to admire some conservative figures, wisely choosing and voting for them, I am all in for that.
It is a whole another thing when we don’t ‘know what it means to be Christians anymore, and we just want to embrace conservativism as if both were the same thing, while we also put all our hopes in those people, who says they represent our best interests. How naive are we?!
Men will fail us, again and again, God always warned us of that. It is time for us to lift our eyes and seek for truth and help from the only person who can actually save us, Jesus. To Him, all the honor and glory, and to no one else.
I hope it helps you to go deeper in this reflection, to analyse your own beliefs and behavior and just be honest. With youself and with God.
We deserve better. And God is the better source of everything good we could ever hope or ask for. We need to confess our wrongdoing and repent before Him.
He deserves the glory. Turn down the idols, once and for all.

Porque a política não pode nos salvar …

Hoje tenho uma reflexão meio pesada pra compartilhar com vocês, respira fundo e pega um café.
Já faz um tempo que venho pensando nisso…
Não sei quanto a vocês, mas eu gosto de política. Gosto de acompanhar as notícias, de me manter informada,ter um mínmo de noção das coisas. E ultimamente, mais do que nos últimos meses, as notícias são, em sua maioria, ruins.
Não me interpretem mal. Não quero falar especificamente sobre política, apenas usar alguns exemplos para fazer uma reflexão. Não quero me aprofundar nesse assunto, até porque não sou especialista em política, mas, principalmente, porque esta reflexão é sobre uma perspectiva cristã e como interpretamos o mundo.
A direita está em crise, novamente. Ou a extrema-direita, se você preferir o termo que a esquerda usa para se referir a todos que amam seu país, desejam autonomia sobre suas famílias e querem uma economia melhor, livre da forte influência do governo.
Enfim, eu estava refletindo sobre como, nos últimos anos, nos confundimos sobre a diferença entre o que significa ser conservador e o que realmente significa ser cristão. Porque o que tenho notado é que estamos considerando ambos como se fossem a mesma coisa. Não são.
Temos acreditado nessa mentira de que toda figura pública, influenciador ou político que se diz conservador também é cristão ou, pelo menos, defensor do cristianismo. Não, isso simplesmente não é verdade.
A questão é que as pessoas ficaram tão confusas com essas visões de mundo complementares, mas não idênticas, que não sabem mais o que significa ser cristão, pelo menos não nas redes sociais, pelo o que eu tenho acompanhado.
No entanto, meu ponto aqui não é apenas que nós, internautas, presumimos que toda figura conservadora compartilha valores cristãos. Mas sim que, ao começarmos a presumir isso, também começamos a depositar nossas esperanças nessas figuras, e elas estão nos decepcionando. Alguém se surpreendeu com isso?!
Tenho visto o mesmo fenômeno que acontece nos EUA, aqui no Brasil. Uma figura proeminente, um político, que se levantou com esse discurso animador, contra todas as ameaças do comunismo (ou progressismo), que se dizia defensor dos valores familiares, que queria um país livre com uma economia saudável, onde as pessoas pudessem de fato ter suas próprias opiniões. O discurso era tão bom, tão convincente, que claro, nós acreditamos!
Ele veio e se foi, não é mesmo? Os que permanecem, abrabdaram e muito, seus ideiais conservadores.
Mas não só isso, porque com as promessas, compramos a ilusão de que essas pessoas foram enviadas pelo próprio Deus. Que elas não estavam lutando apenas pelo direito de termos valores e visão conservadoras, mas também pelo nosso direito de sermos cristãos, e mais ainda, que elas honravam a Palavra de Deus. Grande ENGANO.
Essas figuras públicas, e aqui quero incluir não apenas políticos, mas também comunicadores e influenciadores, não são esse pacote completo e maravilhoso que imaginávamos. Elas só querem que acreditemos que ser conservador, ou, indo ainda mais fundo, fingir ter valores conservadores, significa também que elas amam a Deus e querem viver de acordo com a Sua Palavra. Já reparou?
Como pudemos acreditar nisso? Não sei, mas acreditamos.
E por último, mas não menos importante, todo esse conceito equivocado, que misturou política e religião, resultou em ídolos que criamos para nós mesmos, essa falsa ideia de redenção e libertação. Esses políticos que surgiram como salvadores da nação nos decepcionaram continuamente.
Criamos um ídolo, acreditamos que a POLÍTICA nos salvaria, que se escolhêssemos as pessoas certas, elas resolveriam tudo para nós, que nos libertariam do mal do progressismo com toda a sua agenda. Elas falharam.
Alguém surpreso com isso?!
Só para deixar bem claro, eu não estou dizendo que os cristãos não podem falar sobre política ou mesmo serem chamados pra isso; podemos sim, e, além disso, devemos estar preparados para escolher nossos representantes com sabedoria. No entanto, esta não é a resposta final pros nossos problemas.
Observando esse padrão aqui e ali, só posso concluir que Deus está nos ensinando uma lição. Ele está derrubando nossos castelos de areia, nossas esperanças tolas em pessoas que não podem nos salvar, pessoas que mal conseguiram se salvar (da perseguição política, por exemplo).
É hora de nos ARREPENDERMOS. Estou falando sério.
É hora de sermos honestos e reconhecermos diante de Jesus o quão enganados, quão iludidos, estávamos ao depositar nossas esperanças e sonhos de liberdade nessas pessoas. Uma coisa é admirar figuras conservadoras, escolher e votar nelas com sabedoria – concordo plenamente com isso.
Outra coisa completamente diferente é não saber mais o que significa ser cristão e simplesmente abraçar o conservadorismo como se ambos fossem a mesma coisa, depositando todas as nossas esperanças naqueles que dizem representar nossos melhores interesses. Quanta ingenuidade!
Os homens nos decepcionarão repetidamente, Deus sempre nos alertou sobre isso. É hora de erguermos os olhos e buscarmos a verdade e a ajuda da única pessoa que pode realmente nos salvar: Jesus. A Ele, toda a honra e a glória, e a mais ninguém.
Espero que essa reflexão te ajude a analisar suas próprias crenças e comportamentos, e a ser honesto consigo mesmo e com Deus.
Se nós queremos uma vida plena e liberdade, Deus é a ÚNICA fonte, de tudo de bom que podemos desejar ou pedir. Precisamos confessar que erramos, e nos arrepender.
Ele merece toda a glória. Abandonemos os ídolos, de uma vez por todas.
“Eu sou o Senhor; este é o meu nome!
Não darei a minha glória a outrem,
nem o meu louvor aos ídolos.
Eis que as coisas antigas já se cumpriram,
e novas coisas eu anuncio, antes que venham à existência.” Isaías 42:8-9
