Hey friend!
After my devotional this morning, I decided to share this amazing chapter of Ephesians 1. Sometimes we go so fast through a passage in the bible, that is important to read it again and digest it’s truths. There are a lot of precious truths imersed in Ephesians. That’s why I decided to share it with you! Let’s take a walk through the text:
” Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace…”
According to this chapter, we are:
- Chosen before the foundation of the earh;
- Adopted in the family of God through Christ Jesus.
- Blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ;
- Forgiveness of our sins through His blood;
- Holy and blameless at God’s sight, not only at the moment of our salvation, but forever.
Untill this point we see God bringing forth His plan, a plan that He had before the foundation of the earth, to include us into His family through Christ! Even before we ‘ve ever heard about Jesus, he already had his eyes on us, we were chosen. Isn’t it mind blowing?!
If you, like me, sometimes feels like an outsider, like you don’t belong anywhere, this must be mind shifting! We belong to Christ, we were chosen to be part of God’s family and THAT’S WHY sometimes, in the natural, we feel like we don’t fit in any given scenario, we feel rejected by people.
Actually, Jesus warned us it would happen: That we would be rejected like he was, because we are part of his family, we carry His Spirit. This is amazing!(painful sometimes, but still amazing!)
“Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.
I love the Message version, because it highlights that one of the gifts we receive is FREEDOM: “And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need…”
6.We are not barely free, we abundantly free!
Think about it! One of our most deep desires in life is freedom! We want to be free from labels people put on us, we want financial freedom, we want to be free to think and be whatever we want to. But, ultimately, our true freedom comes through Christ, spiritual freedom!
Everything that opress us, everything that is wrong with people and society comes from the same root: SIN! That means we can’t fix ourselves. We can improve or change some outcomes of this problem through humen effords, of course. But in the end, Jesus is the only one who can solve the problem of sin, the WHY HUMANITY IS BROKEN.
If you want really, really bad to be free, the only way is to surrender to Christ, because in fact, He is the medicine for our spiritual lack. He is the source of all good you long to find. Believe me, there is no person, group, ideology or money in the world that can fix us or our situation. Jesus is the answer!
If you ever struggle to find your true identity, something to affirm who you are, here are some good news. Paul continues in Ephesians 1:11-12:
“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
7. We have a brand new identity!
Identity is one of the most complicated issues of our lives. In our teenage years we try really hard to find out who we are, we are desperate to belong. We identitfy the first group of people who seems to think and act like us, people who likes the same things and we say : I got it. I am _____ now!
I don’t know wich group you embraced in those years of your life, to try to build your identity, but for me was the rock n’ roll group! I used to love listen to heavy metal bands, dressed all in black and drink cheap wine outside of some place where a band was playing. It was not only about partying, but also the ideas that was spread in this scene: Rebelion, revolution. After that, I also related with people who liked to smoke weed and do others drugs. However, even though it was fun for a while, it didn’t last. After years, I was still lost and empty.
I still love rock n’ roll, by the way, but it does not defines my identity anymore.
Identity is a very important thing! That’s why we can’t built it in something that is temporary! Friends and trends come and go! Our youth fades away and, suddenly, we find out that we’ve changed and can’t relate to that stuff anymore. So what, then?
I am not talking about religion here, friends! Everyone can find one that fits their fancy. I am talking about a way to real life, a connection that shows us who we really are: Loved, adopted, freed and forgiven.
There is only a way to achieve that, this kind of freedom, only Jesus can provide. If you spent years trying other things, like me, you should know better by now.
8. We not only have an idenity, we have a purpose!
Second thing that bothers us the most, after our identity is: What is the meaning of life? Why am I here?
This quest connects with the former one, because, while we are chasing an idenity to call our own, we also want to know the answer of why we are here. Well, in this chapter of Ephesians, we have a glimpse of God’s plan for us.
First, we discover that we are not ramdomly made, we are not here by accident! We are here because He chose us to be part of his family. Not only that, but to be part of Christ mission!
“It’s in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This down payment from God is the first installment on what’s coming, a reminder that we’ll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life.“
Knowing that this present life is NOT ALL THERE IS, it is a very comforting thing, I have to be honest. Because we live in a broken world, there will always be pain and injustice, poverty and lost, opression and abuse. But this passage made it very clear that this is only the first chapter of God’s story, guys!
We can choose to live in freedom right here and now, but knowing that we are not exempt from the evils of this world. Not yet.
However, we are called for eternity. We are called to rule with Christ when He comes again. I do’nt know if you are satisfy here, but I definetely want more than this world has to offer! And thank God, this is a real possibility! I say possibility, because, ultimatelly, is up to you if you will embrace this invitation or not.
The work is done, the door is open, but we need to be willing to cross it! Maybe for you, today is the day to embrace the truth that Jesus died and ressurrected for you! So you could live a free and abundant life!
I hope you notice it today, while you can still enjoy it. But remember, the door won’t stay open forever.
Tesouros escondidos: Identidade e propósito.

Após minha leitura devocional hoje de manhã, decidi compartilhar este capítulo incrível de Efésios 1. Às vezes, passamos tão rápido por uma passagem da Bíblia que é importante ler novamente e digeri-lo. Há muitas verdades preciosas nesse capítulo. Por isso, decidi compartilhá-la com você! Vamos analisar o texto:
“Bendito seja o Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que nos abençoou com todas as bênçãos espirituais nas regiões celestiais em Cristo. 4 Pois ele nos escolheu nele antes da criação do mundo, para sermos santos e irrepreensíveis diante dele. Em amor, 5 nos predestinou para sermos adotados como filhos por meio de Jesus Cristo, segundo o beneplácito de sua vontade, 6 para o louvor da sua gloriosa graça, que ele nos deu gratuitamente no Amado. 7 Nele temos a redenção por meio do seu sangue, o perdão dos pecados, de acordo com as riquezas da graça de Deus…”
De acordo com o texto, nós somos:
1.Escolhidos antes da fundação do mundo;
2.Adotados na família de Deus por meio de Cristo Jesus.
3.Abençoados com todas as bênçãos espirituais em Cristo;
4.Perdão dos nossos pecados pelo seu sangue;
5.Santos e irrepreensíveis aos olhos de Deus, não apenas no momento da nossa salvação, mas para sempre.
Até aqui, vemos Deus executando o Seu plano, um plano magnífico que Ele tinha antes da fundação do mundo, para nos incluir em Sua família por meio de Cristo! Mesmo antes de termos ouvido falar de Jesus, Ele já nos tinha em vista; fomos escolhidos. Não é impressionante?!
Se você, assim como eu, às vezes se sente um estranho, como se não pertencesse a lugar nenhum, isso deve mudar sua perspectiva! Pertencemos a Cristo, fomos escolhidos para fazer parte da família de Deus e É POR ISSO que, às vezes, no mundo natural, sentimos que não nos encaixamos em nenhum lugar, nos sentimos rejeitados pelas pessoas.
Na verdade, Jesus nos avisou que isso aconteceria: que seríamos rejeitados como Ele foi, porque fazemos parte da Sua família, carregamos o Seu Espírito. Isso é realmente incrível!(por vezes doloroso, mas incrível!)
“Graças ao sacrifício do Messias, ao seu sangue derramado no altar da Cruz, somos um povo livre — livres de penalidades e punições acumuladas por todos os nossos pecados. E não apenas livres por pouco, mas abundantemente livres! Ele pensou em tudo, providenciou tudo o que poderíamos precisar, revelando-nos os planos que tanto se deleitavam em elaborar. Ele nos apresentou tudo em Cristo, um plano de longo prazo no qual tudo seria reunido e resumido nele, tudo nos mais profundos céus, tudo na Terra.“
Eu amo a versão A Mensagem, porque ela destaca que um dos dons que recebemos é a LIBERDADE: “E não apenas livres, mas abundantemente livres! Ele pensou em tudo, providenciou tudo o que poderíamos precisar…”
6. Não somos apenas livres, somos abundantemente livres!
Pense nisso! Um dos nossos anseios mais profundos na vida é a liberdade! Queremos nos libertar dos rótulos que as pessoas nos impõem, queremos liberdade financeira, queremos ser livres para pensar e ser o que quisermos. Mas, em última análise, nossa verdadeira liberdade vem por meio de Cristo, a liberdade espiritual!
Tudo o que nos oprime, tudo o que há de errado com as pessoas e com a nossa sociedade vem da mesma raiz: O pecado! Isso significa que não podemos nos curar sozinhos. Podemos melhorar ou mudar algumas consequências desse problema por meio de esforços humanos, é claro. Mas, no fim, Jesus é o único que pode resolver o problema do pecado, o porquê da humanidade estar corrompida.
Se você realmente deseja muito ser livre, o único caminho é se render a Cristo, porque, na verdade, Ele é o único remédio para a nossa carência espiritual. Ele é a fonte de todo o bem que você anseia encontrar. Acredite em mim, não há pessoa, grupo, ideologia ou dinheiro no mundo que possa nos curar ou resolver nossa miserável situação. Jesus é a resposta!
Se você já teve dificuldades para encontrar sua verdadeira identidade, algo que afirme quem você é, que te dê sentido, aqui está uma boa notícia. Paulo continua em Efésios 1:11-12:
“É em Cristo que descobrimos quem somos e para que vivemos. Muito antes de ouvirmos falar de Cristo e termos esperança, ele já nos observava, tinha planos para nós, para uma vida gloriosa, parte do propósito geral que ele está realizando em todas as coisas e em todos.“
7.Temos uma identidade totalmente nova!
A identidade é uma das questões mais complexas da vida. Na adolescência, por exemplo, nós nos esforçamos muito para descobrir quem somos, ansiamos por pertencer a algo maior, encontrar um sentido pra vida. Identificamos o primeiro grupo de pessoas que parece pensar e agir como nós, pessoas que gostam das mesmas coisas, e dizemos: ‘Entendi. Agora eu sou _____!’
Não sei qual foi o grupo com o qual você se identificou nesses anos da sua vida, na tentativa de construir sua identidade, mas para mim foi o rock n’ roll! Eu adorava ouvir bandas de heavy metal, me vestir toda de preto e beber vinho barato do lado de fora de algum lugar onde uma banda estivesse tocando. Depois disso, eu também me enturmei com pessoas que gostavam de fumar maconha e usar outras drogas.
Não era só sobre o rolê, mas também as ideias que circulavam nesse meio que me atraiam: rebeldia, revolução. No entanto, embora tenha sido divertido por um tempo, não durou. Depois de anos, eu ainda me sentia perdida e vazia.
Aliás, eu ainda amo rock and roll, mas ele não define mais a minha identidade.
Identidade é algo muito importante! É por isso que não podemos construí-la em algo temporário! Amigos e tendências vêm e vão! Nossa juventude se esvai e, de repente, descobrimos que mudamos e não conseguimos mais nos identificar com essas coisas. E aí?
Não estou falando de religião aqui, amigos! Cada um pode encontrar uma que lhe agrade. Estou falando de um caminho para a vida real, uma conexão que nos mostre quem realmente somos: Amados, adotados, libertos e perdoados.
Só existe um caminho para alcançar isso, esse tipo de liberdade, que só Jesus pode proporcionar. Se você passou anos tentando outras coisas, como eu, já deveria saber disso.
- Nós não temos apenas uma identidade, temos um propósito!
Segundo O que mais nos incomoda, depois da nossa identidade, é: Qual o sentido da vida? Por que estou aqui?
Essa busca se conecta com a anterior, porque, enquanto buscamos uma identidade que possamos chamar de nossa, também queremos saber a resposta para a pergunta: por que estamos aqui? Bem, neste capítulo de Efésios, vislumbramos o plano de Deus para nós.
Primeiro, descobrimos que não fomos criados ao acaso, não estamos aqui por acidente! Estamos aqui porque Ele nos escolheu para fazer parte da Sua família. E não só isso, mas também para fazer parte da missão de Cristo!
“É em Cristo que vocês, depois de ouvirem a verdade e crerem nela (esta Mensagem da sua salvação), encontraram-se livres para viver — assinados, selados e entregues pelo Espírito Santo.” Este pagamento inicial de Deus é a primeira parcela do que está por vir, um lembrete de que receberemos tudo o que Deus planejou para nós: uma vida gloriosa e de louvor.“
Saber que esta vida presente NÃO É TUDO O QUE EXISTE é algo muito reconfortante, sendo bem honesta. Porque vivemos em um mundo imperfeito, sempre haverá dor e injustiça, pobreza e perdas, opressão e abuso. Mas esta passagem deixa bem claro que este é apenas o primeiro capítulo da história de Deus!
Podemos escolher viver em liberdade aqui e agora, mas cientes de que não estamos isentos dos males deste mundo. Ainda não.
A boa notícia é ,por outro lado, que somos chamados para a eternidade! Somos chamados para reinar com Cristo quando Ele voltar. Não sei se você está satisfeito com essa presente realidade, mas eu definitivamente quero mais do que este mundo tem a oferecer! E graças a Deus, esta é uma possibilidade real! Digo possibilidade porque, no fim das contas, depende de você aceitar ou não este convite.
A obra está feita, a porta está aberta, mas precisamos estar dispostos a atravessá-la! Talvez hoje seja o dia para você abraçar a verdade de que Jesus morreu e ressuscitou por você! Para que você pudesse viver uma vida livre e abundante!
Espero que você perceba isso hoje, enquanto ainda é possível. Mas lembre-se, a porta não ficará aberta para sempre.
